Waterfront Bait Fishing Loch

The Arm: allows anglers long casts into The Upper Loch – ideal for Spinning.  As well, as a wide sweep round The Channel, to the Lower Loch.  Want to catch your limit as fast as possible? This could well be your spot!

The Narrows: with fish constantly moving between The Upper and Lower Lochs, it’s ideal here for both Bait & Spinning.  Some of the Heaviest Bags of fish come from here.

Lower Loch: Both Live Bait and Spinning fishing techniques are effective here. There’s a tendency for resident fish to hold in here where it is quite sheltered – slower retrieves can work very well.

Upper Loch:  This is classed by many as the favoured beat of the Bait Loch. The top end beyond the boats consistently produces the largest fish and the heaviest bags. Fish are always on the top of the water and can be targeted in the clear water.

Kids Play Park: Handy for family days out – right beside The Bait Loch is the Kids Play Park, featuring Zip Line, Swings and Roundabout. Adjacent to the Play Park and The Bait Loch is a large grassy area for families to enjoy – often setting up a Fishing Tent for the day or to Picnic.

Bait Loch

Bait, Spin, Catch

Adventure awaits in the Bait Loch, tailored for Spinning and Live Bait fishing!

Bait Loch

The Bait Loch has an average of 9ft to 10ft deep, with some points at 12 feet deep.  There are always large fish put in here specially for the kids.  It is stocked every week to maintain a minimum of 150 fish in the Bait Loch.

Best Spot

Best casting spot is at the top of the loch just beyond where the green boat sits. This is where the heaviest bags of fish usually come from.  The Narrows at the end of The Arm also produces some great catches as there are always fish moving here between the upper and lower parts of the loch.

Learning

Spinning and Bait Fishing are allowed in the Bait Loch. Fly Fishing is not normally allowed on the Bait Loch.  However, only by special arrangement, people can learn to Fly Fish on the Bait Loch.  This is ideal for kids, juniors or people learning Fly Fishing for the first time. Fish are more wary in the Fly Loch – its harder to catch them on the fly there.  And there’s never any  Spinning or Bait Fishing techniques allowed on the Fly Loch. When instructing Groups in Fly Fishing – we often take them to the Bait Loch to get started.  That way they may quickly experience the excitement of a bend in the rod, and the joy of a trout in the net!

Well stocked:

There's always a minimum of 150 Trout in the Bait Pond, with many Very Large Trout as well.

Angler's Hut

Angling Shop

Visit The Waterfront’s Angler’s Hut for a selection of essential fishing tackle, snacks for the day, the best flies for the conditions or for the time of year. Also available is a selection of Live Bait for the Bait Loch along with Bait Fishing Tackle (& of course Fly Fishing Tackle.) It’s the ideal spot for anglers to stock up on necessary gear or grab a quick snack.

Sustenance

Enjoy the loch view from the dining terrace, in front of the Angler’s Hut.  With options to enjoy snacks from the Angler’s Hut or the Full Menu from the Restaurant, you can relax and recharge in comfort. Also available are any items from the Restaurant or Snack Bar, as a Takeaway.

Tactical Advantage

The elevated view over the Fly Loch isn’t just for admiring the scenery – it provides a valuable perspective on where in the loch the fish are feeding and their behaviour – crucial for planning the afternoon’s fishing strategy.  Beyond the vision advantage, the terrace is a hub of camaraderie, where members and regulars readily share tips and guidance with newcomers.

Private Trout Chef

Some people don’t like to clean and fillet their catch themselves. So, we offer a fish cleaning service, deboning and filleting. We have had groups of 40 people, with all their caught fish being prepared and filleted for them, to take home.

You may even have your catch cooked for you for lunch!  Our speciality is Pan fried Trout with Sautéed Potatoes and Green Veg, or your trout can be prepared in any way, as you prefer.
